The use of statistics allows audiences to observe and understand the influence and nature of these ideas that spread and take over many groups of people. "Gender Equality in Athletics and Sports - Interesting Facts About Athletics, Sports, and Title IX - Feminist Majority Foundation." Gender Equality in Athletics and Sports - Interesting Facts About Athletics, Sports, and Title IX - Feminist Majority Foundation. N.p., n.d. Web. 24 Oct. 2016. In this article, readers are able to understand the minuscule details and statistics that present the struggles that come with being a female athlete. In comparison to males, females are given 36% less scholarship money and only equate for 43% of athletes, when the average college is 54% female. The fact that female athletes are given much more limited opportunities when compared to males is very apparent to all audiences, but this article details just how little females are awarded in comparison to males. Alongside these stated statistics, readers are able to observe the seemingly nonexistent punishment that results from violation of Title XI. Title XI supposedly forces all public universities and schools to provide equal opportunities and treatment for females and males, with threats of removal of federal funding if a university fails to comply. But, in thirty years no school has been forced to face this punishment. This information, provided by the analysis of Title XI and the realistic benefits awarded to female athletes, presents facts to support the argument that gender inequality is present in many sports organizations and is not a faulty idea influencing individuals. "Gender Pay Gap for Women Athletes | Inequality.org." Inequality.org. N.p., 30 July 2015. Web. 24 Oct. 2016. In this article, author, Kelsey Clark, uses the recent controversy over the US women soccer team's low pay to address gender inequality in sports. In this circumstance, the women's team accumulated a massive amount of success and following, earning a great deal of profit for their team and sponsors. The only people not financially benefiting from this success, was the actual team. The US women's soccer team has one 3 World Cups, but the team was only awarded 2 million for each win. If a team wins the Super Bowl, each member is payed 97,000 dollars on top of a 46,000 dollar pay out after each playoff game win. The Super Bowl is a US based game, while the World Cup is international. The members of a winning team in a nationwide game profit much more than the team members of a winning team in an international game. This massive gap in profit gives reason to believe gender inequality is a serious issue not only nationwide, but worldwide as well. On top of that, it degrades the argument that gender inequality in sports is only apparent because of male athletes working for and earning more than female athletes.
